Dawn Thomas
striKING COBRAS

"The spirit is there in every boy;

it has to be discovered and brought to light."

- Robert Baden-Powell -

Dawn Thomas joined Pack 362 as a Den Leader in 2008 with then Den 9.  Over the past few years this den has transformed from Den 9 to Den 98 and then made the leap to become a Webelos Patrol.  The striKING COBRAS are an active and spirited patrol that everyone recognizes when the destinctive chant, "striKING COBRAS...striKING COBRAS...stiKING COBRAS... hissssssssss" is heard.

Dawn, otherwise known as Miss Dawn to the Scouts, likes to go on cave crawls with her boys.  She stands out amongst the many cubbies with her pink caving helmet, headlamp, flashlight and gloves.  Who said Cub Scouting is just for BOYS!

To get to know Miss Dawn a little better Leader Spotlight asked her a few questions:

LS: What is you favorite food?

MD:  "Bobe's Pizza in Vincennes, but it's got to be the one on 6th Street"

LS: What is you favorite color?

MD:  "Yellow"

LS: Do you have any hobbies?

MD:  "Spending time with my kids, watching soccer, Cub Scouts..."

LS: Everyone has some fear or phobia.  Describe something that absolutely freaks you out?

MD:  "Oddly enough, I do not like snakes.  It makes it tough to be a striKING COBRA, but that was what the boys wanted."

LS: Skits or songs...which do you enjoy the most?  What is your favorite?

MD:  "Most definately skits.  'The Candy Store' "

LS: Of all of the many things you get to do in Scouting what do you enjoy the most?

MD:  "Getting to see the boys having fun and showing what they have learned."

LS: If you were a patrol mascot what would you be?

MD:  "A Monkey"

LS: Do you have an unusual talent or skill?

MD:  "According to my family, I can pick just about anything up with my feet."

LS: If you were not a Cub Scout...what would you choose to be?

MD:  "Probably a Girl Scout.  It looks like that is likely in the near future."

LS: Tell us about your most memorable Scouting moment?

MD:  "Following the first meeting we had after merging Dens 9 and 8 a new parent commented on the how well the den got along (parents and children).  When the new parent found out that it was the first meeting of two different dens coming together, he commented that it appeared as if the den had been together for quite some time.  It was at that point that we knew Den 98 would become a strong family that would get to share the many adventures of Scouting together."
